The PS2 Network Adapter: Your Gateway to HDD Gaming

The PlayStation 2 Network Adapter (SCPH-10281) is an essential accessory for anyone wanting to use an internal hard drive with their PS2 FAT console. Without it, you cannot connect an IDE hard drive to your PS2.

What is the PS2 Network Adapter?

Originally designed for online gaming via the PS2's Ethernet port, the Network Adapter also features an IDE hard drive bay — making it the key component for HDD upgrades. It slots into the expansion bay on the underside of the PS2 FAT console.

Compatibility

  • PS2 FAT only — the slim PS2 does not have an expansion bay
  • Compatible with all FAT PS2 models (SCPH-10000 through SCPH-90000 FAT)
  • Works with IDE hard drives natively
  • Supports IDE-to-SATA adapters for modern SATA drives

IDE vs SATA Drives

The Network Adapter uses an IDE interface. Modern hard drives use SATA. You have two options:

  • Use an original IDE drive — reliable but harder to find in large capacities
  • Use an IDE-to-SATA adapter — allows modern SATA drives up to 4TB

All RetroReplay UK HDD bundles include the correct adapter and a pre-loaded drive — ready to plug in and play. Browse our PS2 HDD Bundles.

Installing the Network Adapter

  1. Power off your PS2 and flip it upside down
  2. Remove the expansion bay cover (two screws)
  3. Slide the Network Adapter into the bay until it clicks
  4. Secure with the included screws
  5. Connect your HDD to the IDE port inside the adapter

Using the Ethernet Port

The Ethernet port on the Network Adapter can also be used with OPL to stream games from a PC over your local network — a great option if you prefer not to use an internal HDD.
