SD2SP2 – SD Card Adapter for the Nintendo GameCube Serial Port 2

SD2SP2

Overview

SD2SP2 (SD to Serial Port 2) is a small hardware adapter that plugs into the Serial Port 2 (SP2) slot on the underside of the Nintendo GameCube. It accepts a standard microSD card and, when used in conjunction with Swiss, allows the GameCube to load games, homebrew applications, and media directly from the SD card without requiring a disc drive or network connection.

Key Features

  • Plugs directly into the GameCube's Serial Port 2 — no soldering required
  • Accepts standard microSD cards
  • Enables game and homebrew loading via Swiss
  • Compact and unobtrusive — sits flush with the GameCube underside
  • Compatible with all GameCube models that have an accessible SP2 port
  • Low cost and widely available as an open-source hardware design

Compatibility

SD2SP2 is compatible with all Nintendo GameCube models that have an exposed Serial Port 2. Some later GameCube revisions have the SP2 port covered or removed; in these cases an SD Gecko adapter (Serial Port A) may be used as an alternative. SD2SP2 requires Swiss to function as the game loader.

How It Works

When Swiss is launched (via PicoBoot, modchip, or Action Replay), it detects the SD2SP2 adapter and mounts the microSD card as a storage device. Games and homebrew stored on the SD card are then accessible through the Swiss file browser and game list.

Typical Setup

  1. Insert a microSD card into the SD2SP2 adapter
  2. Plug the SD2SP2 into the GameCube Serial Port 2
  3. Copy Swiss and game files to the microSD card
  4. Boot the GameCube via PicoBoot or another homebrew entry point
  5. Swiss will detect the SD2SP2 and load games from the card
